Congratulations to our Lodge Secretary, W.Bro. Andy Green who was Installed as Second Principal in The Morley Chapter No.8320 on Tuesday 26th April 2013 in the Morley Lodge Room, Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester.

Due to the recent sad loss of E.Comp Craig Beatson, who would have been installed as the new Second Principal, the normal progression was interrupted and the First Principal, E.Comp. Roger Peutrill, and the Second Principal, E.Comp. Andrew R. Green, agreed to continue in their respective offices for another year. E.Comp. Clive R. Watts was installed as the new Third Principal, in a very sincere way, by E.Comp. Andrew Green.
The Morley Chapter was, on this occasion, honoured by the presence of the Second Provincial Grand Principal, E.Comp. John A. Townsend, PGStB, accompanied by the Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies, E.Comp. Henry Kukiewicz. The evening ended with an excellent Festive Board, which was enjoyed by all present.
The annual Lodge coffee morning for the residents of Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Home at Devonshire Court, Oadby was held on Saturday27th April 2013. As ever, it was a very enjoyable occasion to spend time with the residents of the Care Home which was enhanced by sherry and a quiz.
The Wyggeston Lodge No.3448, the Universities’ Scheme Lodge for the University of Leicester, was extremely honoured to welcome the Assistant Grand Master, R.W.Bro. David K. Williamson (President of the Universities Scheme), Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. David V. Hagger, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. James L. Buckle, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Peter C. Kinder, and the Provincial Officers to their Regular Meeting held on Friday 19th April 2013. The Assistant Grand Master, was accompanied by the Universities Scheme Chairman, W.Bro. C. Edward Lord.

In total, over 100 Brethren witnessed a Double Initiation Ceremony of two Initiates recruited via the Universities’ Scheme – Bro. Chris Kent, a University of Leicester medical graduate, and Bro. Sam MacCuaig, an undergraduate student at the University of Leicester reading International Relations. The Junior Deacon, Bro. Yogesh Patel, confidently conducted the Initiates whilst the Junior Warden, Bro. Jamie Mollart, very ably gave the Initiate’s Charge.
The Assistant Grand Master and the Scheme’s Chairman addressed the Brethren about the aims of the Universities’ Scheme and its’ success announcing that 56 Lodges across England, Wales and the Overseas Districts had now joined the Scheme.
At the Festive Board, W.Bro. Andy Green proposed the toast to the Assistant Grand Master who responded by thanking the Lodge for a superb evening and a wonderful occasion. He further congratulated all those who assisted the Worshipful Master on the “excellent” Ceremony. The Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Tom A. Bodycot, presented the Assistant Grand Master with a pair of The Wyggeston Lodge cufflinks commissioned as part of their Centenary celebrations in 2010 together with a history of the Lodge. The Provincial Grand Master additionally presented the Assistant Grand Master with a copy of the ‘Freemasonry in Leicestershire and Rutland – The ‘Other’ Orders and Degrees’.

Since joining the scheme in April 2011, The Wyggeston Lodge have initiated 13 University of Leicester students/graduates.
Being a member of the Universities’ Scheme has allowed the Lodge to bring the core values of Freemasonry – Integrity, Kindness, Honesty and Fairness to a new generation and have seen the average age of membership drop from 60 to 49 years of age.
The evening was certainly a very special occasion and one the members of the Lodge and all those who attended will not forget in a very long time.
The Master of the Gartree Lodge, No.7778, W. Bro. Peter Barnes, kindly agreed to assist The Wyggeston Lodge in Passing one of their Members who is a student at the University of Leicester.

The Passing Ceremony of Bro. Alec Maxfield was conducted at their regular meeting on Tuesday 10th April 2013 in the Morley Lodge Room, Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester. The Worshipful Master of Wyggeston Lodge, W.Bro. Tom A. Bodycot, Bro. Maxfield’s Personal Mentor, W.Bro. Peter Smith and six other members of Wyggeston Lodge attended to support Bro. Maxfield.
Members of both Lodges completed the evening with a very enjoyable Festive Board where Bro. Maxfield was presented with a signed Summons and a copy of the Gartree Lodge History which had been produced in 2011 for the 50th Anniversary of the Lodge.
Gartree Lodge members were delighted to have been involved on this occasion, and would be very happy to support the Universities’ Scheme again in the future.
On Thursday 21st March 2013, members of The Wyggeston Lodge joined the regular meeting of the Enderby Lodge No.5061 to assist in Passing a member from each Lodge in a Double Ceremony.

This was a certainly a unique occasion and not one seen in the Province for a long time. The meeting was held in the Holmes Lodge Room, Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester. University of Leicester Student member, Bro. Andrew Slater, from The Wyggeston Lodge was Passed along with Enderby Lodge member, Bro. Zarb. Our Senior Deacon, Bro. Paul Bodycot, assisted in the ceremony and a number of Wyggeston Lodge members attended to support Bro. Slater. It was a great and memorable occasion and The Wyggeston Lodge thank the Enderby Lodge for assisting them in progressing one of their members.

A number of members from The Wyggeston Lodge attended the meeting to support Bro. Panteli and also the current Master of the Lodge, W.Bro. Peter Smith, who is also a Past Master of The Wyggeston Lodge. The meeting was held in the Oliver Lodge Room at Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester.

Four Leicester University students were part of a very special evening in February as this was the very first time in our history that we had carried out a quadruple joining ceremony which is a very rare occurrence.

Our new members join an ever growing number of Leicester University students we have welcomed into the Lodge since joining the Universities’ Scheme in 2011.

Two more University of Leicester students, Alec Maxfield and Andrew Slater, joined The Wyggeston Lodge at our December meeting. The students were recruited via the Universities’ Scheme which the Lodge is a member and the designated Lodge for University of Leicester students, staff and alumni. The Master and members of the lodge visited Beneficentia Lodge No.5308 on Saturday 8th December 2012 for their Installation Meeting held at the Central Masonic Centre, Clerkenwell, London. Being Installed as Master was Bro. Toby Baxter, a regular visitor and supporter of The Wyggeston Lodge. It was a superb night which was thoroughly enjoyed and we look forward to visiting again in the future.
